ANTHROPOLOGY

Anthropology, by definition, is a discipline of infinite curiosity about human beings the term comes from the Greek anthropos for “man, human” and logos for “study.”

Anthropologists seek answers to an enormous variety of question and about humans. They are interested in both universals and differences in human populations. They want to discover when, where, and why humans appeared on the earth, how and why they have changed, and how and why the biological and cultural features of modern human populations vary. Anthropology has a practical side too. Applied and practicing anthropologists put anthropological methods, information, and results to use in efforts to solve practical problem.

Definition of Anthropology

Anthropologists have defined anthropology in many ways. Some of them are given below. 

1. According to W. A. Havilland, “Anthropology the study of human kind everywhere, throughout time, seeks to produce useful generations about people and their behavior and to arrive at the fullest possible understanding of human diversity.”

2. According to Gwynne and Hicks, “Anthropology is the study of people and all the things they do, think, say and make.”

3. According to Jary and Jary, “Anthropology is the study of human beings, divided into the branches of biologically oriented, physical anthropology and social oriented, social anthropology.”
